The development of my anti ad was not to difficult. The hardest part was not creating a concept but creating the hard copy of the ad. Finding pictures that would work with my anti ad were not easy to come by at all. However, once I came across them I let me creative side have a go at creating the ad and I was done before I knew it.
As for our group project I was not able to see everyones ads due to going out of town. The magazine part though was not too difficult. It did not take long to come up with the idea of our magazine or the set up of cover and table of contents. I hope the rest of the project runs as smooth as it started out to be.

It didn't take me long to think of an advertisement to make an anti-ad for. Basically, I tried to think an ad, or company, that is so ridiculous and over the top with its promises and false presentations. I think if you looked up ‘over the top and ridiculous’ in the dictionary, a picture of a TrimSpa ad would be in the definition. With body image so important in our society right now, this anti-ad is appropriate for the issues young women are being challenged with. It was fun to make an anti-ad that resembled the original ad but replaced the pictures and words with ones that negate the words in the original.

For the group project, it wasn’t too hard to develop an appropriate magazine to incorporate all of the anti-ads but for one we had to manipulate an article into making it work.

At first i thought i was not going to know what to do. But this assignment is turning out to be alot of fun. I have created my anti-ad, i think it's cute. however the magazine i think it would be alittle more work. Just because everybody in the group have to agree to one thing. when we first got the assignment i was unsure what to do how to do it, but i think it came out to be a good sucess.I do not think that my group ad's are bad, they actually are really good. And when we are to put them togeather it's not going to be that bad after we figue out what order we want them in.

I had a pleasant experience with this assignment. Though I have yet to actually create my anti-ad, I'm sure it will be fun. Creating the magazine cover was quite the experience, so I figure the ad will be the same. Thinking up the ad wasn't that great, though, because it took me a while to figure out what I was going to do. That and finding an Army ad on the internet was hard for me.

My groups' ad's ideas aren't bad. I haven't seen them, but the concepts seem great. As far as putting them together, that's not hard at all. Just throw em' together.

My experience in creating my anti ad was kinda easy. I found a really good advertisement in a magazine and only had to use photoshop to change it. I went to the library and used photoshop. It came easy to me because I had used it in high school in my yearbook class. But mine is still an amatuer advertisement. After looking around I thought it was going to be hard to make up an ad but it was actually very easy once I found a good advertisement. I thought my group memebers ads were also very good. They were very creative in what they came up with for their anti advertisements. I also feel that it will be pretty easy to put the ads together in one magazine because there is always a magazine that features what we have to work with, liquor, beer and a lotion ad.

I didn't find it that difficult to create an anti-ad. At first it seemed pretty easy and I feel that it was an interesting assignment, but when it came time for me to actually create my ad, it was harder than I imagined. After looking at adbusters.org, it gave me a better idea of what we were exactly supposed to do. Then, it was challenging not to use the same sort of ad or idea. I didn't know what kind of ad I wanted to do at first, and I chose my ad randomly. I knew that I didn't want to do an ad that everybody was thinking about doing. I enjoyed thinking up the idea more than actually creating my ad, because I couldn't really put my ideas together the way I wanted to. My group members ads are completely different from mine, but I don't think it's going to a problem putting the magazine together because many magazines have different ads in them, to sell different products. All in all, I think this was a good assignment, it was very unique and interesting creating my own ad, and discussing the pros and cons of my regular ad. I think that our group will have a fun time creating the magazine, and our plans are looking pretty good.

anti ad

I found creating my own anti ad to be very difficult. Ultimately, my lofty designs for an anti ad are more complicated than my photoshop ability allows. I'm planning on going old school,and drawing and pasting my thoughts to create a work of art. I am thoroughly inspired by the album cover of "Revolver" and hope to create my own masterpiece. I chose to parody alcohol because of its relevance to our lives here at FSU. My group members were just as creative and will surely be much more artistic than me. Finding a fit for lotion and alcohol will be fun. I first thought of young women, but the other two pictured an old woman tabloids. I had a great time thinking up my anti ad but have been disappointed with my attempts creating the actual ad. Hopefully i will have an artistic breakthrough over thanksgiving break.

I was really hesitant at first when we heard we were going to make an anit-ad. After looking at ad-busters in and out of class I started to feel a little bit better about it though. Looking through the ads, I thought about doing something on fast food, or environtmental issues. There were lots of options, but I ended up not going with either of those topics. Thinking of which ad I was going to use was hard, but not as hard as actually making it. It was fun trying to figure out photoshop and working with new things on the computer, but it did become very frustrating. It was a lot harder than I expected. Even though I had a general idea in my head, applying it to paper was hard. When our group got together, our anti ads were very different. I thought it was a little difficult coming up with a common foundation for our magazine. My group members had good ads, ours just weren't that compatable. We worked with it though to make an awesome magazine.

Controversies

I enjoyed creating my anti-advertisement tremendously. It allowed me to be creative and focus my paper on the topic i chose rather than teacher appointed. I faced difficulties however actually creating the ad because i am not a computer genius. I had trouble altering the image to what i wanted it to be, but i feel that I did a suffice job in the end. I was torn by choosing the cigarette ad i did, and a alcoholic ad featuring high school students at a bar underage drinking. I feel that my group member's ads are just as creative as mine. I enjoyed comparing ads and creating the magazine together even though i am a critic and enjoy messing with people. It was relatively easy except for the fact that my entire group including myself were computer retards. Other than that it was a great experience.

At first, I expected this whole anti-ad thing to be quite difficult and boring. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that creating this type of ad was enjoyable and not that time-consuming. I searched through a number of magazines to pick which advertisement I would change and I had numerous ideas, but they all seemed to be about alcohol and cigarrettes. I wanted to pick something that I would enjoy thinking about and manipulating. I think I enjoyed thinking up the idea the best because I am not really good with computers. They usually get me frustrated pretty easily. I think that creating an anti-ad was easier than I initially thought, but it still gave me some trouble. My group members anti-ads were extremely interesting and abstract. As for the finished product, we are still working on the cover page and table of contents. However, once we put in a little more time we should find that putting the magazine together is not as hard as it looks.

What were some possible ads and issues you were considering for the last assignment? Did you enjoy creating it the best or did you enjoy thinking up the idea? I've read this story and talked about it in my other english classes, so that kind of spoiled it for me. The story is about abortion. There are numerous context clues that the author puts in the story; for example "The only one i want to be with is you". The scenery symbolized the two choices they have to make, as well as the train tracks, because they are both completely different and the tracks go in two completely different directions.

I'm pretty sure that Hemingway has got me in such a state of confusion. The main characters of this short story are the American and what i am guessing is his girlfriend or wife. I think this because he is constantly telling her that he loves her. These two people are going to Madrid for a reason that i know not. I get the impression that it is something that the girl is confused about and is not sure if she wants to go through with. I'll be honest David told me in class that this story was about abortion but i do not see that at all after reading this. The atmosphere to me is if they were in the middle of a desert. The hills all around them suggest that they are somewhere in the middle of nowhere. When i was picturing this story in my head, i was picturing this old school railway in the middle of nowhere with a fat ugly bartender serving them drinks that will make them forget where it is that they are going. The one part of this that i am curious about is the fact that the American says that he will be happy with what she does. He tells he this over and over. I am just really confused by this story. I've read it three times now and i am still just bewildered. I cannot pull any sort of meaning out of this. I feel like the hills looking like elephants has some deeper meaning but i have no idea what.

The story "Hill Like White Elephants" was wried to me. This is a story that takes sometime to understand and one that you wouldhave to read more than once to get the point. The characters are a Man and Woman who are at a train station drinking beer. Seems as if they are drinking to get over something or to make some type of decision about something because at the end the say "she will do it." but like i said a WRIED story.

Once I finished reading, my initial response was 'mmm, WHAT?' After going back, and looking at the text, everything (slowly) beings to make (some) sense. The main characters are the girl, and the American man and they are sitting at a train station waiting for their train to arrive, having a drink, and discussing, I think, their reason for heading to Madrid. The setting is very simple, as described by both the girl and man. In the area, the girl notices mountains that she claims look like white elephants. In the dialogue, the conversation about an operation is exchanged between the man and the girl. According to the man, the operation is painless, from what he's heard, and will make them happy. This could, maybe?, be symbolism for the American state of mind as percieved by other countries, how having an operation, to change an appearance could make everything better, and the man love the girl.

The short story is very confusing if you just skim over it and it barely seems to make any sense. But there is meaning to almost everything around the characters. There are two characters sitting at a bar in at a train station. One is a man and he is there with his girlfriend/partner who he calls Jig. There are having a conversation about something that is pretty serious and they are indecisive about what to do. The situation is that she is pregnant and they are talking about an abortion. She refers to the hills as white elephants. A white elephant is a term derived from ancient times and it is a sign of a burden. People would give you a white elephant as a gift and it was illegal to get rid of it. It seems nice but in all honesty it was nothing but trouble, they were very expensive to keep up and obviously its not easy to find room for an elephant. The hills were like white elephants to symbolize that the baby was a burden and taking the road of having the baby would ruin their lives, which they talk about. The train station itself was also symbolism for something. They could go in two different directions, on one side there were hills (maybe her pregnant belly) and the other had a nice flat field (a flat stomach, no baby). They ordered a lot of drinks, you could see they were stressed out and wanted to get away from it. They loved to travel as you can see by all the stickers of the different hotels they had been to together. A baby would change their life completely and wouldn't be about traveling and doing what they love anymore.

There's the female - Jig (I think), and a male (?). They're both drinking alcoholic drinks. There were waitresses, as well. The setting seems to be some sort of bar. It's all kind of odd, really. The dialogue, to me, reveals that they might be a little inebriated. White elephants? ... I didn't like this read. I didn't find it interesting at all.

Actually, I don't think there are ever white mountains. When the sun is behind them, they're black, and when the sun is shining on them they're their natural colors -unless- it's really cold and there's snow.

"Hills like White Elephants" was a very unique story. Hemingway always has a unique way of writing that initiates a lot of thought. In the story there was a man and a women, perhaps and married couple, that had a certain topic they were discussing. As they are waiting for the train the man is stating his thoughts on the decision that should be made, but still letting the final decesion go to the female when he says "I wouldn't have you do it if you didnt want to." This probably is a clue that the operation she has to decide about is possibly an abortion. The man also says "Ill go with you and stay with you the whole time," after he mentions that its perfectly natural and everything will be fine after. Another clue that this could probably be about abortion is when the lady asks if he would still love her. He tells her that he doesn't want anyone else but her. This could mean he just wants things to stay the same, just the two of them. The two discuss this topic at a train station, most likely somewhere in Europe because the destination is in Madrid.

In Hemingway’s “Hills like White Elephants” the characters in the story sound like a boyfriend and a girlfriend. It’s actually very confusing because you don’t know what they’re talking about the whole time. The characters are in like a bar atmosphere discussing their problem that no one knows. The setting makes it feel like they are in the middle of like a little town in Europe with beautiful hills in the background. I really don’t know how the hills are like White Elephants though. I feel that that is a very weird description to use to describe hills and have no idea what the hills are supposed to look like.

Hemmingway’s “Hills Like White Elephants” is quite the story for confusion. The two characters are a man and a woman who are introduced to the reader at the beginning of the passage. The setting is said to be at a train station junction that would head from Barcelona to Madrid. The characters seem to be waiting for this train while enjoying a few drinks. The topic of an operation is brought up the reader is left rather clueless as to what kind of operation might be taking place. The only help the reader gets is when the man says “I know you wouldn’t mind it, Jig. It’s really not anything. It’s just to let the air in.” This statement leaves the reader pondering more about the operation. As the conversation continues the reader gets a look into the relationship they share. By looking at the context one might comprehend that after the operation their relationship will be fine and that they will go back to the way things were before. Although the man repeats how much he loves the girl, their relationship must be on a bumpy ride. As the train arrives the man leaves the women to take care of the bags. Upon returning he asks if she feels better and she replies “I feel fine. There’s nothing wrong with me. I feel fine”. This is the statement Hemmingway leaves the reader with. Not answering questions about the operation, why the couple is going where they are going, or even the tone in which the characters are even speaking. Maybe Hemmingway was a man of mystery when it came to his writing style. Maybe he wanted to leave his readers with questions.

In the story "Hills Like White Elephants", there are two characters, a man and a woman. They are waiting at a train depot, somewhere where the woman thinks the hills look like white elephants. The woman character in the story seems to be very pessimistic, while the man on the other hand, is just the opposite, and he tries to uplift her and make her feel comfortable about whatever it is that is troubling her. It seems that something is worrying the woman, causing her to act strangely and get easily upset. I really don't understand exactly what is taking place in the story, because the couple are just at the train station drinking beer and waiting on a train. Throughout the story the woman is trying to make a decision about something, and finally at the end of the story she seems to have made her decision. I still haven't realized what the white elephants symbolize, or what the couple are discussing.

"Hills like white elephants" was a fascinating story about a couple with a decision to make. What first struck me about the story is the unhappiness that the couple seemed to be sharing. Jig comments that "thats all we ever do isnt it- look at things and try new drinks". This leads me to believe that there is something new that Jig wants in her life. The conversation later leads to a discussion about some sort of operation. The quote that struck me was when the American repeats " I don't want anyone but you". This leads me to believe that the operation in question is an abortion. The symbolism of the "white elephants" could mean many things. The one that came to my mind quickest was that for the American, having a baby would be like having an elephant in the room. In the end, Jig decides to have the "operation", and the American seems happy that she has obeyed him in his request. I'm sure discussion of this story will spark a good debate in class.

Hills like What?

After reading the passage, I am throughly confused. Hemmingway is a confusing writer and if this passage is any indication of his work, he enjoys baffling his audiences. I assume that the two people are dating or something of that nature because the man and women discuss love and caring. They're relationship must have hit a down point because she tries to ask him if things will go back to the way they were. The whole time they are discussing an operation of some sort. While the women doesn't seem too keen on having the operation she would do it for the man, in attempts to win back his affection or something like that. The man know of the operation and is perhaps more intelligent than the women and seems to be trying to reassure her. The whole time they are drinking beer and it is never really stated what this operation is for and there are no real clues that can hint at what it was like. I get the feeling that the woman is younger and would do anything for the mans adoration, even an operation. I really hope this passage is explained because at this point, I am completely unsure. Her comment about the hills and his lack of response shows that she is perhaps not as serious as him and maybe not wise? I do not know.

The dialogue depicts how the story is perceived. The man is trying to be supported, so his dialogue hints that he is trying to uplift the woman who is facing a fork in the road in which an operation is involved. The story takes place in Spain, where the man and woman are waiting for a train so they can depart to their destinations. The atmosphere is filled with nervousness and riddles. What is the operation she need? Is it an operation she is indeed waiting for? Why is this man taking such an interest in her? The woman is beside herself and doesn't know what to do about her current situation, and the gentleman she meets tries to uplift her and end her anxieties so he can have a peaceful train ride. Overall I would say that this was a strange story. It left me more confused then when I started reading.

"Hills Like White Elephants" is a extremely interesting story of dialogue that takes some deep thinking to understand what's going on. The story takes place somewhere in Spain at a train station. The man, which I think is older, is very relaxed in the things he says. However, the woman, which I think is younger than the man, is nervous about something that is about to happen. They both are waiting for a train to Madrid and while they are waiting, they are constantly drinking beer. I can tell this passage is written by Hemingway because I have a biography of him and he was a hardcore alcoholic. Hemingway gives certain clues to hint that the girl might be having an operation, but she is extremely nervous to do so. The man doesn't care if she goes through it or not, he is just trying to be as supportive as possible. In the end, the girl says she will go through with operation. An abortion?
